Zielone światło dla zrównoważonej mobilności w mieście Żory - description EN
City of Żory is implementing the project entitled “Green light for sustainable mobility in the City of Żory”, co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021–2027 Programme.
Priority FENX.03 Urban transport,
Measure FENX.03.01 Urban transport.
The objective of the project “Green light for sustainable mobility in the City of Żory” is to create a modern, safe and environmentally friendly transport system which will improve the quality of life of residents and reduce the negative impact of transport on the environment. The project envisages an increase in the share of zero- and low-emission means of transport, the development of pedestrian and cycling as well as interchange infrastructure, and the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) that will improve the functioning of public transport and encourage residents to shift away from the use of private cars.
The main concept of the project is based on balancing transport options in the city through the development of a network of interchange hubs, construction of pedestrian and cycling routes, and modernisation of infrastructure supporting vulnerable road users. The project is of a comprehensive nature – it includes both infrastructure investments and organisational solutions supporting the integration of different forms of mobility. In this way, the City of Żory aims to create a friendly, modern and sustainable urban environment that supports economic development and improves safety and travel comfort.
The target group of the project includes residents of the City of Żory, in particular users of public transport, pedestrians and cyclists, as well as persons with disabilities and other vulnerable road users. The project is also addressed to commuters travelling to the city and users of transfer infrastructure and sustainable urban mobility solutions.
The project “Green light for sustainable mobility in the City of Żory” comprises a number of integrated infrastructure and organisational activities aimed at improving urban mobility.
Main tasks and scope of the project:
- Expansion of the interchange centre at Męczenników Oświęcimskich Street together with the construction of a pedestrian and cycle route;
- Construction of new interchange hubs with Park & Ride and Bike & Ride facilities in the area of railway stations (including Żory–Baranowice, Żory–Kolejowa);
- Development of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure – creating safe, coherent connections between key points of the city;
- Implementation of an ITS (Intelligent Transport System) including, among others, dynamic passenger information, priority for public transport and traffic monitoring;
- Improvement of road safety through modernisation of lighting and adaptation of public space to the needs of pedestrians, cyclists and persons with disabilities.
Altogether, the project creates a coherent mobility system combining public, cycling and pedestrian transport into a modern, environmentally friendly transport network.
